Credit System

• Credits
  • A minimum of 12 credits
  • A maximum of 19 credits
• Credit Information
  • One credit is normally earned by attending one hour of class a week during the entire semester. To complete the undergraduate course in four years, students generally take a minimum of 9 to a maximum of 19 credits every semester.
• Credit Requirements
  • 130 credits to be eligible for graduation
• Average score
  • more than 92 percent → 3 more credits available
• Average score
  • less than 65 percent → a maximum of 15 credits
• Credit Transfer
  • The maximum transferable credits earned from other universities are 68. Those credits will be recognized by Woosuk departments or divisions if they are equivalent to the courses offered within the program of study the student is currently undergoing at Woosuk.

• Course Registration
  • Next semester’s courses should be applied through Woosuk Web site during the given period at the end of each semester. The application period will be notified to each department and posted on main home page. Limited numbers of courses are offered during the Summer and Winter Semesters.
    For detailed schedules, please check the full academic calendar announced at the beginning of every academic year. If you miss this period, you still have a chance to apply for the classes during the add/drop period (the first two weeks of new semester). Remember that some popular courses will be full quickly, so the earlier you register, the more possibility you secure.
• Add/Drop Courses
  • You have the option to changing or adding your schedule during the first two weeks of the semester. Log in at Total Service Program of Woosuk main homepage to change and add your courses with student ID.
    Instead of being able to drop any course, please note that it is possible to retake a class. It means you can take the same course to completion only twice. Therefore it is a good idea to drop a course if you feel you are going to receive a D or an F. To drop a certain course, print out a sheet detailing the changes made, and then turn in this sheet to the student assistant of your department.
  • Period: within two weeks from the beginning of a new semester
    Procedure
    • Decide to add/drop courses on the Woosuk Total Service Program of main homepage
    • Complete add/drop in Woosuk System
    • Print out completed drop form
    • Submit form to department
• Withdrawing Courses
  • During the withdrawal period, you can withdraw the courses you want to do. However, you do not receive your scholarship unless you have completed 12 credits during the previous semester, so take care to leave at least that many courses.
  • Period: Before final test
    Procedure: same as the procedure for drop courses
• Academic Warning
  • If you have been attending Woosuk for at least a year, and get a GPA of less than 2.0 in one semester, you will receive an academic warning. Three academic warnings in a row result in expulsion. However, it is possible to request a hearing within 15 days of expulsion to explain your position; expulsion can be cancelled once.

There are various ways to have academic certificates issued for you.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES

General Scholarships for International Students

This scholarship is granted to the international students newly entering as first year students or transferring from other universities on the condition that they and their parents do not hold Korean citizenship. As far as they stay in good academic standing with the GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.5 scale, recipients continue to have their tuition discounted up to 40 percent.

General Scholarships for Exchange Students

This scholarship applies only to the exchange students from global partner universities. The amount of scholarship awarded depends on the agreement with their home universities.

Academic Excellence Scholarships

This scholarship, worth between KRW 1 to 1.5 million per term, is granted to those who earn a GPA score of 4.25 or higher on a 4.5 scale.

Merit Scholarships

This scholarship is designed to appreciate those students who demonstrate academic, athletic or artistic merit, in addition to special interests. On the recommendation of the head of department or faculty, or the dean of college, those who rank in the top three in publically recognised national contests are considered for the award.

Work-Study Scholarships

The scholarship is awarded to students with promising academic potential, who can combine study and work without interfering in their academic progress. This is a task-based award, whereby the holders are required to work for a specified number of hours per week during term time in return for partial remission of tuition fees.

Community Outreach Scholarships

The scholarship is intended for students in good academic standing who are making a valuable contribution to their community in some way. Candidates are expected to demonstrate outstanding academic performance, leadership and community involvement.
